thee ludds
i'm no genius, i'm the first one to admit that. some how i've gotten a degree, but let's face it, i didn't put any amount of effort into it, i bunked classes as and when i saw fit and used any means neccesary to get extensions on coursework. and where has that got me? not very far. my life right now consists of me making pubescent boys cry on call of duty and watching my dogs fight one another.
so by that admission its evident i'm a fully fledged moron, and thanks to thee ludds when ever i catch myself doing something exceedingly stupid y'know walking into a door frame or standing on a plug in the dark. i take solace in the fact that 'i'm a moron.'
any way enough whimsical bullshit. here is the nitty gritty stuff.
thee ludds are something of a different direction for tye die. for starters i've met them. they hail from in an about the midlands. they all go to university at demontfort in leicester, they're also all lovely but that's a given with people from leicester.
the whole 60's psych revivalist sound is refreshing, and i show my ignorance when the only comparisons i can make are thee oh see's and most things billy childish ever did. go on, listen to their tracks or see them live thats because that is the vibe you get, an impressive showcase in organ driven 60's psych pop.
we've tied (oh that so should be a pun) them down to a 6 track cassette out before xmas, it'll aslo be available on cd from their own label hodad.
ace yeah?

dingus khan
over the past month or so there has been sporadic communication between tye die towers and a band of undoubted taste, dingus khan. in what has been the internet equivalent of those awkward conversations where nobody talks for ages and then, when you manage to summon up the courage to talk, you both fumble for words at exactly the same time, we’ve come to the conclusion that we’re putting out a tape by them. at some point anyway.
i’d love to regale you with humourous anecdotes about the khan’s adventures and personality quirks but the truth is that i don’t know anything about them. i do know that their music ranges from storming, dissonant marches through 90s indie-rock to sebadoh-esque acoustic simplicity, by way of quoting terrence and phillip with a lot of huge riffs thrown in!
they’re unlikely to be playing anywhere near you at any point in the future (distant or otherwise) so watch the brilliant video to “how do you like me now?” on their fantastically chaotic myspace page.

ethiopians
ethiopians have simply the best name. and judging by the photo the best shirts too. what started out as one of those one-man-band things we hear about, the addition of a drummer has made them a two-sie (i sense i a tye die theme.). marty brass (the chap standing up) was one of our first releases, and are we proud! he sold out an e.p. and a split with bhurgeist.
his latest offerings are a more mature progression from his previous work. the stand out being, 'just relax' which is a snarling tune that at first brings to mind ty segal, but not in the way of a shameless rip off but by way of a homage, add to this a tinge of the fall and you see how they have managed to make their mark in an over saturated genre and still retain their individuality.

sealings
at tye die tapes h.q. we have a car, this car is quite possibly the best car in existence. it's a car that you could imagine fidel castro driving around post revolutionary cuba in. it's red, it's long and it pulls to the left, yet the car isn't the focus of this post. what is the focus is the band whose tape that has been lodged in the tape deck for the past few months. now this isn't a shameless plug of them in order to sell a few tapes. we don't need to do that. they flew off of our proverbial shelves.
sealings are a two-sie and a drum machine, which you could take as an excuse to forgive them for any short comings. but there aren't any. if you were one of the lucky devils who snapped up the tape you'll have heard 'panadol' and 'bowling alley' and you'll agree they are instant driving classics. fuck 'cream' put this on, it makes any driving experience instantly bad-ass. well at least for the 11 minutes it runs for.
everything is pushed into the red. its loud. it's angry. it's tight. it makes me think of how 'tad' would sound if they cut out all the bullshit and were just heavy.
in fact if you're so inclined you can go here and download the tape, courtesy of that's punk put it on your ipod or mp3 device burn it onto a cd, dub it to a tape. put it in your car and drive!
n.b. tye die tapes accepts no responsibility for driving fines incurred.
